Horses, Mindfulness and Being Intentional

My own personal journey of self discovery and my desire to become the best version of myself that I can be has led me to incorporate meditation, yoga, mindfulness and intentionality into my life. Because I begin each day feeding the horses, work with the horses during the day, and close out the daylight hours feeding the horses, I have plenty of time to reflect on my own journey, and on how my life with horses affects and is affected by, my journey.

One thought that has recurred recently is that horses encourage mindfulness and intentionality. Being with them is safest and most enjoyable when we are aware of their movements, their actions, their moods...in other words, being mindful. Acting with intention also produces optimal safety and enjoyment. Whether we are riding a horse, leading a horse, or just walking near them, daydreaming can lead to mishaps large or small. And of course the beauty of these magnificent creatures will bring so much pleasure when we are mindful, intentional and aware!

I love this picture! How true it is that we need to always be mindful when around horses...and that intentionality will bring us closer to them, as we learn how they communicate with us in their own language.
