Perhaps at some point, Edna will recollect more stories, but for now, this is the closing entry of my interview with Edna Fix from Lexington, Virginia.
Q: Do you know how your dad learned how to drive horses?
A: As a kid, he had horses – he rode a horse to town..that was his transportation, and that’s also how he learned to farm. Finally, at some point, he got an old Model T car, but before that, it was just horses
Q:Was he born in Lexington?
A: Yup – he was born in Lexington. His dad bought that farm that dad had. Dad lived there with his dad until he got married, and then Grandpa sold him 8 acres or something, and then after Grandpa died, he bought the farm.
Q:Did you know your Grandpa?
A:No – he passed away 2 years before I was born.
Q: Was he born in Lexington?
A: Yup…he was born there too.
We chatted a little about that part of Edna’s family history, and I asked if she had found any pictures of the horses, but unfortunately, she did not. She asked her brother too, but he didn’t have any either. Edna indicated that they really didn’t take many pictures at all. Those were different times. I've included some old photos of the farm and the countryside that Edna sent, but unfortunately, no photos of George or Bill or Kate or Coalie. We'll have to use our imaginations to conjure up pictures in our minds.

I love these reminiscents!
