In the fall of 2021, at the age of 67, I happily checked one item off my bucket list....doing my Century Ride. The Century Ride, as far as I know, is an award that is specific to dressage. In order to earn it, the rider must complete a dressage test on a horse whose age, combined with that of the rider, equals 100. My ride was completed on Freedom's Spirit, a Mustang gelding we have had since 1988. It was something I had wanted to do ever since I learned there was such an award! Spirit was a real champ....coming out of retirement just for this ride. When we made our final halt, I believe he felt as gratified as I did!
There was a time that I wanted to ride a Mongolian horse across the Mongolian steppe, and ride in real horse race, but alas, those ideas have been rejected in favor of much tamer things...including writing an entry in this blog post every day for one year! Some others? ride my new pony in an online dressage show, go for a trail ride with my granddaughter and daughters. Who knows? Maybe I'll come up with some braver, bolder ideas for my list.
